Former Republican Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch died Saturday in Salt Lake City
according to an announcement from his foundation. He was 88 years old.
The cause of death was not specified.
Hatch was a Utah Senator for nearly 42 years.
He took office in 1977 and served until his retirement in 2019.
He was also Senate President pro tempore
third in line of succession for the U.S. presidency during his last four years in offic
Hatch was known for his work on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
During his final years in office, he was also a strong ally of Trump.
