Arsenal vs Liverpool Match Updates

Liverpool moved to within one point of the leaders Manchester City after a hard-fought 2-0 win over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Diogo Jota and the substitute Roberto Firmino scored quickfire goals at the start of the second half to give Liverpool a ninth consecutive league victory and end Arsenal’s five-match winning run.

Liverpool were below par during a tense, largely chanceless first period, the highlight of which was a series of exhilarating runs from Gabriel Martinelli.

The match exploded into life after the break.

Alisson made a brilliant save from Martin Odegaard at one end; three minutes later, Diogo Jota gave Liverpool the lead after a mistake from Aaron Ramsdale.

Jota and Luis Diaz were substituted immediately after the goal, with Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino coming on.

Seven minutes later, Firmino made it two with a deft finish after a buccaneering run from Andy Robertson.

Liverpool’s win means the top two are separated by just a point with nine games remaining – and they meet at the Etihad on 10 April.

The two teams were involved in an immense title race in 2018-19; this year’s could be even better.
